CHARTER OF THE GALACTIC SENATE

(Revision 2019)

Article I: Mission Statement:

The mission of the Galactic Senate is: 

• TO UNITE the STAR WARS™ costume and related organizations in our common goals. 
• TO SUPPORT and create productive interactions between organizations within the community. 
• To PROVIDE a vehicle by which member organizations can communicate, address, and find solutions within the community.
• TO PROMOTE progress, charity, and inclusion. 

 

Article II: Purpose

By those efforts we will strive to accomplish and promote the following: 

• To establish formal communication lines and ensure better relations between respective member organizations. 
• To utilize our strengths to maintain an inclusive, STAR WARS™ community. 
• Ensure that the highest regard for the STAR WARS™ brand is maintained within the community. 
• Establish a website and forum for the promotion of all the member organizations.

 

The Galactic Senate embraces the principles of cooperation and communication in the community. The Galactic Senate may discuss any questions relating to the maintenance of harmony and communication brought before it by any member of the Galactic Senate, or by a STAR WARS™ costume or other related organization that is not affiliated with the Galactic Senate.

Article III: Membership

Galactic Senate permanent members include: The Rebel Legion, Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club, The Dark Empire, Droid Builders, Saber Guild, and the Galactic Academy. Our respective groups establish a community organization to be known as the Galactic Senate. Other organizations can be added with a unanimous vote of the Senate and a completion of a six [6] month probationary period at which the permanent members will cast a vote for permanent membership. 

 

Membership in the Galactic Senate is voluntary and a group may opt to leave.

Article IV: Sovereignty of Member Organizations

The member organizations in pursuit of the purposes stated in Article II, shall act in accordance with the following principles:

 

1. The Galactic Senate is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its members. 
2. All members shall use the Galactic Senate as a forum to settle their inter-club disputes in a manner that protects the community. 
3. Nothing contained in the present Charter shall authorize the Galactic Senate to intervene in matters which are internal to any member organization and/or the member organization’s sole jurisdiction. 
4. The Galactic Senate is not an umbrella organization or “super club”, but rather an institution that allows other groups a forum to communicate. The Galactic Senate is not a costume organization, fan group, privately owned business/corporation and never competes with the branding of its member organizations. 

 

Article V: Representation

The Galactic Senate consists of the representatives of the included member organizations, each organization shall have no more than two [2] representatives.

Article VI: Voting

Each member of the Galactic Senate will have one [1] vote and each organization has an equal voice in that vote. A quorum of the Galactic Senate consists of two-thirds of the members being present. No vote can be held without a quorum. All votes are held in an online format that can be recorded.

 

It is expected that where a member organisation has multiple representatives it is the responsibility of the representatives of member organisations to agree on a single vote.

Article VII: Support Organizations:

The Galactic Senate values the contributions of support groups in our community. The Galactic Senate may partner with these groups as an advisory roll, and will have non voting seats within the Senate. Our current support organizations are: Ladies of the Legion, Pride Squadron, and The Walking Wounded. Additional organizations can be added with a Q&A discussion with that organization followed by a majority vote by the Galactic Senate permanent members, as defined in Article VI.

 

Article VIII : Merchandise

The Galactic Senate shall not produce or create merchandise as an organization. It will not lend its name or likeness to any merchandise unless it is in cooperation with a large joint group event. A member organization can petition to use the Galactic Senate name and/or likeness for specific items with the approval of a two-thirds majority of the Galactic Senate.
